In 2005 the Veterans Health Administration chose to re-architect and re-design their existing My HealtheVet web portal into a more robust and user-friendly veteran health care portal. This major effort involved thousands of pieces of content, data, and user interface components restructured as a multi-tiered MVC BEA Weblogic portal. The new My HealtheVet brought veterans and the general public an expanded secure, online personal health record (PHR) as compared to its previous version. Security of PHR information and usability were key to the success of the project.
Results from early & ongoing end user involvement set the direction for the information architecture and look and feel. Development of easy-to-understand navigation and data entry forms enabled veterans and their families to more easily access information about veteran-related health matters as well as create a secure, online personal health record.
