In 2004 the U.S. Secret Service Information Resources Management Division (IRMD) consolidated Secret Service information currently maintained in systems such as mainframe, SSWEB, hardcopy binders, folders, forms and pamphlets, into an on-demand, highly-efficient web-based portal. The Intranet Portal aimed to provide a single source and directory of relevant and accessible services to all authorized individuals who need Secret Service information and applications to perform their jobs.
Firearms portlet, one of the initial portlet projects for the new intranet portal, was converted from an existing mainframe application. The Firearms application enabled Secret Service agents, supervisors and range personnel to more effectively and accurately track results of their recurring firearms skills tests and manage the shooting ranges.
Improved efficiency of existing business processes by allowing shooters to electronically “sign-in” upon arrival at the shooting range.
Provided more options for data entry of shooter scores, such as entry of active shooter scores.
